Project Manager / Design Engineer

Stockwell Engineers is a full-service engineering, landscape architecture, and land surveying firm with over 40 years of experience delivering creative, practical solutions for communities and private development across the region. We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager / Design Engineer to join our growing team onsite in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This senior-level position is ideal for a licensed professional engineer with a strong background in site design, grading, drainage, and utility layout—someone who can lead complex development projects and serve as a trusted advisor to clients in both the public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities

As a Site & Land Development Engineer at Stockwell, you will:

• Lead the planning, design, and development of residential, commercial, and industrial site projects
• Prepare detailed engineering documents including site layouts, grading and drainage plans, utility designs, and stormwater management plans
• Oversee project schedules, budgets, and staffing needs to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
• Serve as a Project Manager—communicating with clients, coordinating with subconsultants, and ensuring regulatory compliance
• Support land use planning, permitting, and coordination with local and state review agencies
• Play an active role in developing and maintaining client relationships

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Dakota or ability to obtain licensure
• Minimum 10 years of civil engineering experience, with a strong focus on site and land development
• Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary site development projects
• High proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
• Deep understanding of zoning, permitting, and land entitlement processes
• Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
• Self-motivated and collaborative, with a commitment to high-quality work
