Project Manager Distribution Modernization

Location: Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Position Summary

The Project Manager Electrical Distribution is responsible for managing, directing, and coordinating all aspects of electrical distribution engineering projects from concept through completion. This role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, project management acumen, and client relationship skills. The Project Manager will be accountable for project profitability, schedule adherence, quality delivery, and client satisfaction while also supporting business development efforts and expanding service offerings within existing and new client accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall management of electrical distribution projects from concept through closeout, including routing/siting, environmental considerations, permitting, planning, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls, procurement, construction administration, and final closeout.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining professional and collaborative relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Proactively grow existing client relationships, develop new client relationships, and drive repeat business within assigned client accounts.

  • Prepare proposals, assist with client presentations, and participate in contract negotiations.

  • Develop, manage, and monitor project scope, schedules, and budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Maintain ownership of project financials, including accurate cost forecasting, accruals, profitability, and change management.

  • Coordinate with legal, risk management, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage all aspects of project communication with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.

  • Develop and implement project execution plans, policies, procedures, and project controls systems.

  • Ensure project deliverables meet internal QA/QC standards and client expectations.

  • Provide regular reporting on project progress, cost and schedule performance, procurement status, safety and environmental concerns, design issues, risks, and mitigation strategies.

  • Collaborate with department managers to ensure appropriate staffing levels and resource allocation.

  • Support the growth and development of the Distribution team by assisting with hiring, training, and mentoring staff.

  • Travel to client offices and project sites as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited university.

    • Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive electrical distribution engineering experience, including 3 or more years managing engineering projects.

    • A master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

  • Demonstrated experience producing electrical distribution design and construction documents.

  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and applicable industry codes and standards.

  • Proven success in project management, including schedule, budget, and risk management.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.

  • Proven ability to develop business, maintain client relationships, and support marketing and business development initiatives.

  • Prior consulting experience preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

  • Ability to travel as required.

  • Valid driver's license required.
