Project Manager Electrical MEP

Overview

Kimley-Horn is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong focus on electrical engineering to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) team. This role is based out of Escondido, CA and requires 10+ years of experience delivering innovative and sustainable building electrical design solutions for various types of infrastructure projects. This position is in office/in person.

Responsibilities

As a Project Manager, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality building electrical designs while serving as a trusted advisor to clients and mentor to project teams. Your responsibilities will include:

• Project Delivery: Manage the design and coordination of electrical systems for buildings and infrastructure projects, including lighting, power distribution, emergency backup systems, and renewable energy solutions.
• Leadership and Coordination: Lead multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other systems into projects.
• Client Relations: Serve as the primary client contact, addressing their needs and ensuring exceptional service throughout all project phases.
• Technical Expertise: Provide advanced engineering analysis and design for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with codes, safety standards, and best practices.
• Budget and Scheduling: Oversee project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery.
• Mentorship: Supervise, coach, and mentor junior engineers and design staff, fostering professional growth and upholding Kimley-Horn's high standards for technical excellence.
• Business Development: Identify opportunities for new projects, nurture existing client relationships, and contribute to proposal preparation and strategic growth initiatives.
• Codes and Compliance: Ensure designs meet building codes, electrical regulations, and client-specific requirements.
• Collaboration: Partner with architects, engineers, and contractors to develop efficient and coordinated building systems designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.

• 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on building electrical systems design.

• Background in designing electrical systems for mission-critical facilities such as data centers, healthcare, and infrastructure projects.

• Demonstrated expertise in power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm systems, emergency systems, and renewable energy integration.

• Proven experience delivering multi-disciplinary building projects, including collaboration with architects, contractors, and consultants.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

• Strong understanding of local, state, and national electrical codes and standards.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Strong leadership and organizational skills with a commitment to client success.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related advanced program.
• Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and other design tools for building electrical systems.
• Experience in sustainable design (e.g., LEED certification) and renewable energy systems such as solar or wind.
• A history of successful business development and client relationship management.

Salary Range:

$145,000 to $185,000
