Pay range: 35-60/hr

Clean and Resilient Building Team is hiring Project Manager 1 to oversee floodplain mapping improvements and climate hazard data integration. The role focuses primarily on managing a floodplain mapping contract with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), supporting implementation of climate hazard datasets across NYSERDA programs, and improving statewide hazard data tools for public use.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, RISK MANAGEMENT, DATA SCIENCE BACKGROUND = RELEVANT

Floodplain Mapping Contract Management (largest portion of role):

• Oversee contractor performing floodplain modeling efforts with DEC partnership
• Coordinate extensively with Department of Environmental Conservation
• Ensure deliverables meet contract expectations and timeline requirements
• Provide feedback to contractors on technical outputs

Climate Hazard Data Implementation:

• Support NYSERDA staff in interpreting climate hazard datasets
• Build internal tools and guidance materials using GIS and Salesforce
• Troubleshoot data issues and ensure latest datasets are incorporated into programs

Statewide Hazard Data Tools:

• Improve existing public tools like sea level rise mapper
• Ensure climate hazard data is clear, accessible, and decision-ready
• Coordinate with state agencies, academia, IT departments, and other partners

New Product Development (smallest scope):

• Develop new datasets, tools, or methodologies as needed
• Stay current with industry trends and recommend new tool incorporation
• Scope collaboratively with Climate Resilience team only when capacity allows

Technical Requirements:

• Familiarity with floodplain modeling approaches (not required to perform modeling personally)
• Working understanding hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
• Demonstrated experience with climate hazard datasets (flooding, extreme heat, wind, drought)
• Strong contract management experience
• Product development and user testing experience

Specialized Skills (highly beneficial):

• Familiarity with FEMA map products and floodplain management
• Strong working experience with ArcGIS/geospatial tools (most important technical skill)
• Climate risk assessment experience
• Python coding literacy (awareness level, not full proficiency required)

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, risk management, computer science, data science, or related field
• 3-6 years of relevant experience
• Master's degree is a plus but not required
• Demonstrated experience with climate hazard datasets is essential
