Engineering Project Manager

Location: Glen Allen, VA
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

 

Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to lead and motivate project teams through the successful execution of complex, multi-discipline engineering, construction, and program management projects. This position is responsible for the overall execution and completion of projects from inception through closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality and client expectations.

The Engineering Project Manager may serve as an EPC Project Manager or Program Manager and will provide leadership and guidance to other project managers as required by the specific project. This role will oversee all aspects of project execution, including safety, quality, engineering, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, project controls, contracts, risk management, client relations, and public/community relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multi-discipline engineering, design-only, EPC, construction management, construction, and program management projects from concept through completion.
  • Provide leadership and guidance across all aspects of project execution, including safety, quality, engineering, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, project controls, and client/community relations.
  • Establish project teams, coordinate activities across multiple disciplines, and ensure the efficient and cost-effective utilization of staff and resources.
  • Manage all aspects of project communication with internal teams, clients, contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and administration of Request for Proposal (RFP) packages, bid and selection processes, and scopes of work.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain project schedules while managing project scope and controlling costs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding project coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budgets, subcontracting, staffing, environmental compliance, facility support, and schedule attainment.
  • Manage the review, negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
  • Lead internal and external project risk reviews and coordinate with risk management resources as needed.
  • Manage and approve internal and external project reports, including detailed project cost forecasts and accruals.
  • Lead project controls activities, including cost reporting, scheduling, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development, project setup and closeout, and field progress tracking.
  • Monitor project progress and identify areas of concern, providing direction or corrective action to improve schedule performance, productivity, budget, quality, and overall project profitability.
  • Manage project closeout and contract closeout activities.
  • Develop new business opportunities by establishing new client relationships and leveraging existing client relationships.
  • Promote and manage the safety and health performance of project team members, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure adherence to company, project, and site-specific safety policies, programs, training, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with established QA/QC processes and procedures.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, mentoring, and instruction to less experienced staff.
  • Participate in industry conferences, professional organizations, and industry-related committees as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 7 years of applicable/relevant professional experience.
    • Internship experience does not count toward the required years of experience.
    • The degree must be from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to work overtime, including on short notice, as project requirements dictate.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with owners, clients, contractors, engineers, designers, vendors, and other project stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working on construction project sites or executing program management projects.
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries:
    • Aviation
    • Commercial
    • Energy
    • Government
    • Manufacturing
    • Oil & Gas
    • Process
    • Transmission & Distribution
    • Water
  • Experience managing complex, multi-discipline engineering and construction projects.
  • Experience with project controls, cost forecasting, scheduling, contracts, procurement, and change management.
