Project Manager – External Communications & PR

Location: Remote (Central Time hours, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST)

Type: Contract, 1 year, with possible conversion for the right fit

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

Our client is hiring its first-ever Project Manager for its External Communications and PR department. This is a brand-new role. The department wants to bring work in house that has been going to an outside agency, and this person will help build how that work gets planned, tracked and delivered.

About half your time will be spent working directly with the department leader. The rest will be spent working with other teams across the department. If you're a project manager with a communications background, or a communications professional who's been running projects end to end, this role could be a great fit.

What You'll Do

• Plan and manage communications and PR projects from start to finish, keeping them on time, on budget and in scope
• Work with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives and deliverables
• Build detailed project plans and share them with stakeholders and team members
• Coordinate internal teams and outside vendors so projects run smoothly
• Set deadlines, assign responsibilities and keep work moving
• Make sure the right people and resources are available when they're needed
• Manage changes to scope, schedule and cost as priorities shift
• Meet with internal partners to take detailed project briefs and clarify requirements
• Track progress and performance against short- and long-term goals
• Spot risks early and plan how to handle them
• Keep an eye on budgets and adjust plans based on financial constraints
• Prepare status reports and progress summaries for senior leadership
• Build spreadsheets, diagrams and process maps to document needs and workflows

  What You Bring

• Proven project management experience
• A communications background (external communications, PR, corporate communications or similar)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Confidence working with leadership and building relationships with stakeholders across teams
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple projects
• Comfortable working remotely on a Central Time schedule

  Nice to Have

• Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Communications or a related field
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
• Experience moving agency work in house or building project processes from scratch
