Jr. Accountant (Contract)
Reports to: Finance Director/CFO, RHTP
POSITION SUMMARY
EOHHS is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the finance operations of the Rural Health Transformation Program, a multi-year federal initiative funded through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This role supports accounts payable, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation, working closely with the Senior Accountant and Finance Director. It is a good opportunity for someone looking to build experience in government and grant accounting and finance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process vendor and subrecipient invoices; verify documentation, chart of account, project and cost center coding. Review approvals and track payment status.
Support the Finance Director and Senior Accountant in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for state leadership and federal reporting to CMS.
Assist with monthly and quarterly reconciliations across partner state and external agencies.
Prepare draft adjusting entries for review by the Senior Accountant.
Maintain organized files and documentation to support audits and federal compliance.
Gather data and prepare schedules for state and federal reports.
Assist with data entry, testing, and rollout of new financial and program management systems.
Other administrative and finance support as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
1 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
Understanding basic accounting principles, debits/credits, and reconciliations.
Solid Excel skills.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience supporting a new ERP or financial system implementation (strongly preferred).
Federal grant accounting experience, including 2 CFR 200 and federal financial reporting.
Familiarity with Workday, EUNA (eCivis) and/or OpenGov.
Experience with Power BI for financial reporting and dashboards.
CPA preferred, candidates actively pursuing certification (e.g., exam sections passed or in progress) are encouraged to apply.
