Under the general supervision of the Administrative Operations Manager, the Property and Evidence Technician provides operational and administrative support to the Police Department, with primary responsibility for property and evidence control functions. The position is responsible for receiving, documenting, storing, tracking, releasing, transporting, retaining, and disposing of property and evidence in accordance with established procedures and legal requirements; maintaining accurate records and chain of custody documentation; and providing administrative support for routine departmental operations. The full salary range for the Property and Evidence Technician is $25.38 - $35.97 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $30.13 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Please be advised that this is a two-year contract position. \n \nProperty and Evidence Functions - Receive, identify, classify, process, store, safeguard, release, transport, and dispose of police property and evidence in accordance with established procedures and applicable legal requirements. Maintain inventory control and accurate documentation for all items received, including intake records, storage location, movement, transfer, release, and disposition. Ensure property and evidence items are properly packaged, labeled, and documented. Maintain chain of custody documentation and monitor the movement of items throughout storage, testing, release, and final disposition. Coordinate authorized release, destruction, and disposal of adjudicated, obsolete, and unclaimed property and evidence. Prepare routine correspondence and reports related to property disposition. Respond to inquiries regarding property and evidence procedures and status from authorized department personnel, laboratories, courts, and other agencies. Provide instruction to department personnel on proper packaging, submission, and documentation requirements. Administrative Support Functions - Provide administrative support to department operations, including maintaining records, files, logs, and correspondence; preparing routine reports, forms, and other documents; and supporting records retention practices. Screens telephones on behalf of the Chief of Police and Administrative Operations Manager, receive and direct visitors, route inquiries, and provide general information in accordance with established procedures. Coordinate calendars, meetings, and routine logistics as assigned. Prepare routine administrative or financial transactions using applicable systems. Assist with general office support activities.Other Duties as Assigned - Perform other related duties and special assignments in support of department operations.\n \nAbility to maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation with a high degree of attention to detail.Ability to follow established procedures related to receiving, storing, tracking, releasing, and disposing of property and evidence.Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments in a busy office environment with deadlines and interruptions.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to interact professionally and effectively with department personnel, outside agencies, and members of the public.Ability to use standard office software and database systems.Ability to work independently within established guidelines and exercise sound judgment in routine matters.Ability to learn applicable laws, regulations, and departmental procedures related to property and evidence control.Working knowledge of property and evidence handling practices in a law enforcement setting.Working knowledge of chain of custody requirements and records retention practices.Working knowledge of the criminal justice process as it relates to evidence handling and release.Knowledge of the reporting requirements and crime categories of the Jeanne Clery Act.\n \nAbility to maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation with a high degree of attention to detail. Ability to follow established procedures related to receiving, storing, tracking, releasing, and disposing of property and evidence.
