Prototype Automotive Painter (W2 position)

As a Prototype Automotive Painter, you will have the opportunity to translate concepts into reality in the form of functional high-fidelity prototypes. Leveraging your expertise in automotive design and/or engineering, you will have the opportunity to see the future of Ford firsthand and play a pivotal role in the early-stage development of the next generation of Ford & Lincoln vehicle content and experiences. This role requires a deep understanding of automotive systems and subsystems, ability to think creatively and deliver paint solutions that are feasible relative to prototype manufacturing processes.

Problem Solving, Technical Communication

3+ year of experience in automotive painting with a focus on rapid prototypes

5+ years of experience in paint preparation/body work

3+ years of experience working collaboratively with design and engineering

Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Respectfully accepts constructive criticism

5+ years in automotive painting

Surface Preparation, filling, sanding, cleaning and priming.

Applying color and coating systems to achieve the intended appearance, including material preparation, spray equipment setup, application technique, film build, and defect avoidance.

Masking and lining work to achieve clean breaks, multi-tone finishes, and protected areas.

Cutting and polishing a finished surface by hand and by machine to the required gloss and distinctness of image, correcting defects without burn-through or disturbing form.

Matching a finish to an approved master for color, gloss, and texture, and judging when a result is within an acceptable window.

Provide input and support development of prototype build timing plans delivering properties on time and with quality to support milestones

Work collaboratively with design, engineering and fabrication to design, engineer and build prototypes, aligned to design intent and program maturity

Identify areas of opportunity and process efficiencies and action as appropriate

Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve prototype build processes

General ability to abide by shop rules and safety requirements. As this position is fully onsite, the customer can request in-person interviews. If a candidate plans to relocate, note in the submittal that the relocation will be at the candidate's own expense.
