This temporary position is located in Black Mountain, NC - Buncombe County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $137.79 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services This position is located at 201 Tabernacle Road., Black Mountain, NC 28711

This is professional psychiatric work providing direct patient care involving provision of evaluation, diagnosis and treatmentservicestoanassignedpatientcaseloadwithinthefacilitiesandprogramsofstateorlocalagencies.

Employeesserveinavarietyofprofessionalmedicalrolesincludinggeneralpsychiatry,childandadolescence psychiatry,addictionpsychiatry,geriatricsandforensicspsychiatry.Employeesmayserveoninterdisciplinarytreatment teams and committees and act as a consultant to other medical/clinical staff or as a liaison to agencies concerned with thewelfareofthepatientpopulation.Workmayincludetheguidanceandsupervisionofpsychiatricresidentsand fellows. While work is performed with independent professional responsibility, employees are generally accountable to the director of mental health.

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Thoroughknowledgeofpsychiatrictheory,principles,andtechniques,andpracticesofgeneral,preventive medicineandofthetechniquesinvolvedinthefieldofmentalhealth.
  • Thorough knowledge of biological, social, and psychological developmental processes at all ages.
  • Thoroughknowledgeofthepracticeandtheoriesofthemedicalspecialtyorsubspecialtytowhichis assignedtoa widerangeofmedical,behavioral,andpsychologicaldisorders.
  • Skill in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders.
  • Ability to assess and interpret laboratory results, clinical data and information relative to the patient’s condition.
  • Abilitytocompileclearandconcisenotesforpatient'schartsandtomakeoralpresentationsofcasesinmedical conferences.
  • Ability to supervise and guide work performance of psychiatric residents and fellows.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, patients, and their families, and the public.
