OUR MISSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
This experienced-level public information position serves as a key communications professional for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East. The role independently develops clear, accurate, and timely communications that explain the Authoritys mission, operations, projects, emergency readiness, and public value. Responsibilities include media relations, news releases, public statements, executive communications, website and digital content, public education materials, events, facility tours, public-safety messaging, and emergency communications.
Success in this position requires excellent writing, editing, media relations, and verbal communication skills, along with sound professional judgment and the ability to translate complex technical or operational information into language that is understandable to the public. The ideal candidate will be organized, responsive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines while working with executive leadership, technical personnel, government officials, media representatives, employees, and community stakeholders.
KEY COMPETENCIES NEEDED TO SUCCEED
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus one year of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
A bachelors degree plus one year of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
An advanced degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or English.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
