Provides safety and security for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the Ohio Dominican University community and protection of university owned and controlled property. Public Safety Officers are classified as essential employees and are expected to report to work during weather and emergency closings. Part-Time Friday-Sunday 8am-4pm.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Patrol on foot, in vehicle and by bicycle, separate entities including office and classroom buildings, student residence halls, parking lots, healthcare center, and athletic fields.
Secure and open buildings and areas according to building and academic schedules.
Secure computer classrooms and meeting rooms that contain expensive technology and equipment.
Patrol all entities, looking for fire code violations and safety hazards.
Fill out daily shift activity log.
Conduct parking enforcement: issue citations and warnings.
Respond to calls to service, i.e., lockouts, maintenance access to rooms.
Escort staff, faculty, and students to vehicles and to residence halls.
Unlock buildings according to schedule daily.
Check Mohun Healthcare boiler pressure three (3) times nightly.
Assist nurses and nurse's aides to their vehicles at Mohun Healthcare three (3) times nightly.
Act as liaison to emergency personnel as well as public utilities.
Fill out maintenance requests as needed.
Respond to emergency calls.
Carry out emergency response procedures and direct others if necessary in emergency situations.
Assist with public safety needs for special events on campus.
Assignment to specific Football Games, Commencements and University events during regular duty Overtime or as mandatory assignments.
Assist students, faculty, staff and visitors as needed and represent the University in a positive and professional manner by providing excellent customer service.
Document emergency calls in an electronic report management system.
Conduct fire watches during power outages or during fire panel maintenance.
Conduct room searches with permission from Residence Life staff as needed.
Test and/or examine materials to determine if illegal or stolen.
Provide first responder aid in emergency medical situations and maintain both CPR/First-Aid/AED and Blood borne pathogens certifications.
Attend staff meetings, campus events, training, etc. as needed
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience, some college preferred.
Prior work experience and or training in law enforcement or as a security officer preferred.
Ability to use relevant technology and software systems in timely performance of work assignments.
Valid Driver's license
Ability to be ensured to drive University vehicles
Must be able to meet the physical requirements for the position.
Excellent communication and crisis management skills required.
