Public Works Crew Chief

Directs and supervises employees who deliver essential maintenance services in County parks that help improve the quality of life for Palm Beach County residents and visitors by providing safe, clean, and welcoming parks. This is a working Crew Chief position that performs duties in accordance with Park Operations Division quality standards. Work tasks include, but are not limited to, performing daily park maintenance, interacting with park visitors, performing safety checks, scheduling routine and preventative maintenance, assigning tasks, and reviewing work performance. Provides staff training on the daily maintenance of parks/athletic fields and on the operation of landscape maintenance equipment. Assists the District Manager with various administrative duties (i.e., ordering materials/supplies, responding to patron complaints via telephone/email, writing requisitions, and assisting with payroll). Maintains equipment and records/prepares a wide array of written documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:

• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of experience in landscaping maintenance and/or landscaping construction, including three (3) months of experience directing the work of others.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)

Qualified applicants MUST possess at time of application:

• A valid FL Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brakes Endorsement (must specify on application)

AND

• Obtain a FL Class B CDL within 180 days of appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

• College degree,
• Two (2) years of experience directing the work of crews performing landscape maintenance, and
• Valid FL Class A or B CDL (must specify on application).
