Job Description

Purchasing Manager – Commercial Mechanical / Plumbing

Location: Dallas–Fort Worth, TX | On-site

About the Opportunity

A growing commercial/industrial mechanical contractor in DFW is looking for a Purchasing Manager to help build its centralized purchasing department.

The company has experienced significant growth, and purchasing has historically been handled by individual project teams. They're now looking for someone who understands the plumbing trade and can bring more structure, consistency, and purchasing power across the business.

This is a newly created position with the opportunity to establish processes, strengthen supplier relationships, improve material costs, and eventually build a small purchasing team.

We're looking for someone who enjoys the hands-on side of purchasing but also wants the opportunity to build and improve how a department operates.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop and improve purchasing processes across multiple commercial construction projects.

  • Manage purchasing of pipe, valves, fittings, and other plumbing/mechanical materials.

  • Negotiate vendor pricing, manufacturer agreements, purchasing terms, and rebates.

  • Work with Project Managers, Preconstruction, and Accounting to coordinate purchasing needs.

  • Improve material forecasting, pricing consistency, and supplier relationships.

  • Help move purchasing from individual project teams into a centralized operation.

  • Establish purchasing workflows and support the implementation of purchasing systems.

  • Eventually help hire and develop a small purchasing team.

What We're Looking For

Commercial/industrial plumbing and piping knowledge is the biggest priority.

Candidates may come from either side of the industry:

  • Mechanical or plumbing contractors: Purchasing Managers, Purchasing Agents, Procurement Managers, or Materials Managers.

  • PVF supply houses or distributors: Purchasing, procurement, or supply-chain professionals who understand commercial/industrial plumbing products.

Ideal experience includes:

  • Strong knowledge of copper, PVC, cast iron, stainless steel, pipe, valves, fittings, and related materials.

  • Hands-on purchasing, vendor negotiations, pricing, and material forecasting.

  • Experience improving purchasing procedures, inventory processes, or supplier agreements.

  • Ability to work directly with construction teams and understand project material requirements.

  • Strong organizational skills and experience with purchasing or ERP systems.

Previous management experience is preferred, but someone with strong purchasing experience and the ability to build a department would also be considered.

Why This Opportunity?

This isn't a position where you're stepping into a fully established purchasing department and following someone else's processes.

You'll have the opportunity to help shape how purchasing operates across a growing mechanical contractor, with direct involvement in operational decisions and the ability to make meaningful improvements.

If you have a background in commercial plumbing purchasing or PVF distribution and would enjoy building something rather than simply maintaining it, we'd like to hear from you.
