Overview

The AI-Powered QA Engineer IV is a senior technical leadership role on Team Artemis responsible for setting the direction of quality engineering at Planet DDS. This individual contributor will own the QA strategy across automated, AI-assisted, and exploratory testing — and will lead the existing outsourced QA team toward a modern, AI-native testing model. The ideal candidate is either a Level II AI Software engineer who wants to step into senior QA leadership, or a Software Engineer III who is ready to own quality and leverage Claude Code and AI tooling to transform how testing is done. Domain knowledge in healthcare or dental software is a strong plus. To succeed, this person must be a flexible, decisive leader who can set standards, build trust with a distributed team, and drive measurable quality outcomes across a fast-moving SaaS platform.

Job Duties
  • Define and own the QA strategy and roadmap for Team Artemis, setting direction across automated testing, AI-assisted testing, and quality standards for the department
  • Design, implement and maintain the automated testing framework for SaaS products.
  • Mentor and train other team members on automation, quality practices and principles.
  • Contribute to code reviews, design reviews, effort estimates, task breakdowns, and other team discussions.
  • Assess and raise risks across the Planet DDS solution.
  • Work with the engineering team continuously improving the performance, scalability, and reliability of Planet DDS products.
  • Collaborate with the product and engineering teams to design and deploy new features.
  • Learn about the latest tools and patterns consistent with your role.
  • Lead, manage, and grow the outsourced QA team within Team Artemis, establishing clear standards, accountability, and a culture of quality across the extended team
  • Architect and implement end-to-end test automation solutions using Playwright and Claude Code, covering smoke tests, regression suites, and full E2E workflows across Planet DDS SaaS products
  • Drive adoption of AI-native testing practices across the engineering organization, including agentic test generation, AI-assisted defect triage, and Claude Code-based test automation workflows
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Claude Code-based test automation, programming and maintaining AI agents for test execution, coverage analysis, and quality reporting
  • Collaborate across large, distributed engineering teams to ensure comprehensive end-to-end coverage of complex SaaS product workflows, from API layer through UI and integrations
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 8-11 years of experience in software engineering development, test, and/or QA role
  • Track record using AI-powered software testing tools like Applitools, Testim, Mabl, TestRigor, TestComplete, UI-TARS, Midscene, and Puppeteer; strong hands-on Playwright experience for browser automation at scale is required
  • Experience in automation testing and building automation frameworks from the ground up
  • Experience in programming (ideally JavaScript/TypeScript and/or C#)
  • Experience with: Test case management techniques, technologies, and approaches.
  • Experience with Jira & Zephyr Scale would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of how to characterize different risk scenarios (Examples: functional/closed-box, boundary, verification and validation, acceptance, load, stress, performance, HA/DR)
  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s success
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to engage throughout the department and the company to achieve goals
  • Hands-on experience with Claude Code or Anthropic AI APIs, including writing prompts, custom agents, or agentic workflows for engineering or testing use cases
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or technically influence a QA or engineering team, including offshore or outsourced teams; flexible, clear-communicating, and decisive under ambiguity
  • Experience working within large, cross-functional engineering teams with ownership of end-to-end automation coverage across complex, multi-product SaaS platforms is huge plus.
  • Healthcare or dental industry domain knowledge is a strong plus; understanding of clinical workflows, compliance requirements (HIPAA), and data sensitivity in dental practice management software accelerates ramp-up significantly
