QA & Usability Intern (Unpaid)

Company Overview

ODK Media, Inc. is a media company headquartered in Irvine, California. We provide premium international content through our owned-and-operated streaming platforms, including OnDemandKorea, OnDemandChina, OnDemandViet, and Amasian TV.

We also distribute content through global streaming services, cable operators, and movie theaters, serving as a leading Asian media hub for AAPI communities throughout the United States.

Position Overview

Learn how a streaming product is quality-tested end to end at ODK Media. Under close guidance from your mentors, you'll practice functional QA across a real device matrix, design QA against Figma specs, and usability testing with real users.

You'll have two dedicated mentors (a Product Manager and our Design/QA lead), weekly 1:1s, a structured 12-week learning curriculum, and hands-on exposure to AI-assisted QA tooling.

Location & Schedule

• Hybrid: at least 2 days per week on-site at our Irvine office; remaining days remote
• Office: 120 Progress, Suite 200, Irvine, CA 92618
• Duration: 12 weeks, starting [start date]
• Time commitment: [X] hours per week, flexible around class schedules

What You'll Learn & Do

• Learn and practice guided test passes on web, mobile, and TV platforms (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs) alongside your mentors
• Learn to write bug reports in Jira to our standard: reproduction steps, expected vs. actual, severity per rubric, and screen recordings, clear enough that engineers (and AI agents) can act without follow-up questions
• Practice regression checklists and fix verification as part of the release process
• Learn design QA by comparing shipped screens against Figma specs and documenting discrepancies
• Explore subtitle/caption and accessibility testing across devices, including TV remote navigation
• Support usability sessions: task design, note-taking, and synthesizing findings into short reports
• Observe weekly triage to see how issues are prioritized in a real product team

Requirements

Requirements

• Currently enrolled student (junior/senior or graduate) in HCI, CS, Design, Communications, Media, or a related field; able to receive academic credit preferred

• Detail-oriented: you notice the misaligned button, the subtitle that flashes one frame late
• Clear written communication, since most of this work is writing things other people act on
• Comfortable learning Jira and Figma (we teach our workflow)

Nice to Have

• Korean/English bilingual (Vietnamese or Chinese also welcome); interest in streaming or K-content
• Beta-testing or bug-bounty experience, research-methods coursework, or familiarity with TV streaming devices

Perks

• Catered lunch on in-office days, plus a kitchen stocked with drinks and snacks
• Corporate parties, team bonding events, and more
