JOB SUMMARY:
The Quality Supervisor is a hands-on shop-floor leader responsible for coordinating daily quality activities, supporting inspectors and technicians, driving issue resolution, and ensuring products are built and documented to customer, engineering, and company requirements. This role is intended for a high-initiative, technically capable leader who can use quality systems, data, and modern software tools to improve inspection flow, reduce defects, maintain records, and strengthen accountability across manufacturing. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between the production floor, quality records, engineering discussions, and customer-driven priorities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervise and coordinate day-to-day activities of quality inspectors, quality technicians, and assigned quality support personnel.
· Set daily inspection priorities, communicate work assignments, track completion, and escalate barriers that could impact production or customer commitments.
· Provide hands-on support for in-process inspection, final inspection, receiving inspection, product verification, and documentation review as needed.
· Ensure inspection results, quality records, punch items, NCRs, MRB actions, deviations, CAPAs, SCARs, and customer-related issues are documented accurately and closed in a timely manner.
· Support containment, investigation, disposition, correction, corrective action, and verification activities for internal nonconformances and customer escapes.
· Partner with Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Testing, and Project Management to resolve quality issues and prevent repeat problems.
· Review drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, and customer requirements to confirm inspection criteria are understood and applied consistently.
· Train, coach, and develop quality personnel on inspection expectations, documentation practices, use of quality systems, and professional communication.
· Use Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Excel, and other digital tools to maintain records, build reports, analyze trends, and improve quality workflows.
· Monitor quality performance metrics such as defects, rework, escapes, closure aging, inspection throughput, and repeat issues; communicate trends to management.
· Support layered process audits, 5S, process audits, supplier quality activities, and continuous improvement projects.
· Assist with the development and standardization of procedures, forms, checklists, inspection plans, and training materials.
· Promote a culture of accountability, factual problem solving, clean documentation, safety, and timely escalation.
· Maintain organization, cleanliness, and control of quality areas, inspection stations, records, gauges, and nonconforming material areas.
· Perform other related duties as assigned to support changing business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in Quality in a manufacturing setting.
· 1+ year of leadership experience
· Experience using Microsoft Office applications, computers, and tablets; must be able to create reports, maintain records, analyze basic data, and communicate professionally by email.
· Working knowledge of inspection practices, quality standards, nonconformance handling, and basic manufacturing documentation.
· Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, work instructions, inspection criteria, or customer requirements.
· Ability to lead people on the floor while maintaining professional relationships with production, engineering, customers, suppliers, and management.
· Strong attention to detail, urgency, ownership, and willingness to learn technical manufacturing processes quickly.
· High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications:
· 5+ years of experience in Quality in a manufacturing setting with a background in electrical processes.
· 3+ year of leadership experience
· Experience with NCRs, MRB, CAPA, SCARs, 8D problem solving, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
· Strong Microsoft Excel capability preferred, including filtering, sorting, basic formulas, tables, and data cleanup; SharePoint, PowerApps, Power BI, ERP, MES, or QMS software experience is a plus.
· Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other formal quality management system requirements.
· Experience using SharePoint, Power Apps, ERP/MRP systems, quality databases, dashboards, or other digital workflow tools.
· Ability to analyze quality data, identify trends, and communicate findings clearly.
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a similar discipline. Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee sometimes works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, and heights. When participating in activities on the shop floor, the noise level in the work environment is typical for a fabrication shop and ear plugs may be used as necessary.
