QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN

GENERAL FUNCTION: Performs in-process, in-bound, and final inspections of manufactured products to ensure compliance with quality standards, owner specifications, American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) and or United States Coast Guard (USCG) requirements.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:
- Inspects parts, products and or processes to insure conformance with standards, specifications or regulations.
- Conducts tests to verify specified dimensions, strengths and other quality factors using measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Completes inspection records and reports.
- Sets up inspections by ABS and U.S. Coast Guard based on rules and regulations.
- Develop and conduct a variety of tests on inbound materials from vendors and outbound products for shipping.
- Ensure that all of the quality check procedures put in place by the company are followed during every production phase.
- Create comprehensive documentation for quality issues and note the corrective actions that were taken.
- Educate production team on quality control issues and work with departmental managers to improve overall company safety and product quality.
- Create process checklists and coordinate quality inspections with departmental managers.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Familiar with regulatory bodies such as ABS and USCG.
- Must possess excellent communication skills.
- Proven history of understanding industry safety standards and quality expectations.
- Strong understanding of raw materials and the manufacturing industry.
- Good math and technical skills.
- Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: High School diploma with 5 - 10 years of broad shipyard experience in various craft areas required. Certification in quality control is preferred.
