This internship will be based in Dundee, MI.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Join our operations team as a Quarry Operations & Engineering Intern. This hands-on role is primarily based outdoors in an active surface mining environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers and plant managers to optimize aggregate production, ensure environmental compliance, and manage daily pit operations. This position offers a direct look into crushing, screening, and mine planning workflows, gaining key insights into the following areas:

  • Field Surveying & Mapping: Conduct stockpiling and pit face tracking using GPS and surveying equipment.
  • Production Optimization: Monitor and analyze the efficiency of crushing, screening, and haulage equipment.
  • Drilling & Blasting Support: Assist with blast pattern layouts, fragmentation analysis, and pre/post-blast documentation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify bottlenecks in material handling and operational efficiency.
  • Safety & Compliance: Participate in daily MSHA/OSHA safety walks, workplace inspections, and environmental dust/water monitoring. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Executive Presentation: At the end of your internship, you'll present your learnings and contributions to our executive leadership team.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for enthusiastic students who meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong academic performance with a solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Geographic flexibility to work at various sites.
  • High energy and a proactive approach to tackling new challenges.
  • A team player who can collaborate across different levels of the organization.
  • Outdoor Stamina: Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in variable weather conditions (heat, dust, rain) and navigate rugged quarry terrain on foot.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with basic surveying concepts; proficiency in Google/ Excel (AutoCAD or mining software is a plus).
  • Core Competencies: A strict "safety-first" mindset, strong communication skills, and a desire for hands-on fieldwork over a traditional desk job.

SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Work Schedule:This is an onsite role with a mandatory 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, working an 8-hour shift each day.
  • Work Environment: You'll be working in various aggregate environments (i.e. quarry, sand/gravel site, surface mine, construction site), where you'll encounter moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and more.
  • Transportation: Interns are responsible for their own transportation to and from their worksites.
  • Travel: Throughout the internship, you may need to travel to other sites for tours, shadowing experiences, or intern events.
