What will you be doing?

  • Researching and evaluating state-of-the-art AI and machine learning models to identify potential applications across Smith+Nephew products

  • Preparing, cleaning and structuring large datasets for use in model development and training

  • Designing feature encodings to extract meaningful insights from complex data

  • Developing, coding and training machine learning models using modern data science tools

  • Validating and analyzing model performance using appropriate statistical techniques

  • Creating intuitive interfaces and tools that enable teams to explore and use AI models effectively

  • Collaborating closely within a multidisciplinary, fast paced R&D environment

What will you need to be successful?

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering or a related field

  • Master's or Doctoral degree preferred

  • 1-3 years of experience applying machine learning in an academic or professional setting

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, MATLAB or similar languages

  • Experience with machine learning and data science libraries such as Scikit learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, NumPy, Pandas or Keras

  • Solid understanding of data analytics and statistical methods

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical finding

The Group has a history dating back 160 years to the family enterprise of Thomas James Smith who opened a small pharmacy in Hull, England in 1856. On his death in 1896, his nephew Horatio Nelson Smith took over the management of the business. This means that Smith & Nephew is included in the top 100 companies traded on the London Stock Exchange measured in terms of market capitalisation. Today, Smith & Nephew is a public limited company incorporated and headquartered in the UK and doing business in many countries around the world.
