R&D Lab Technician
Job Summary
This R&D Lab Technician role is hands-on electronics work in a professional test and measurement lab. You will troubleshoot advanced electronic systems from the system level down to the component level, support characterization, validation, and verification work, and partner with engineering and NPI teams. The position also includes occasional on-site customer service and maintenance calls for equipment that cannot be moved to the lab. This is a contract to hire opportunity with a clear path to full-time conversion and growth.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot advanced electronic systems and equipment from the system level down to the component level
- Perform root cause analysis and triage on systems brought into the lab
- Support characterization, validation, and verification of systems and subsystems
- Partner with R&D, NPI, and engineering teams to test, repair, and improve electronic equipment
- Use test and measurement equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, function generators, frequency counters, and power meters to test systems
- Read and interpret schematics to diagnose faults and complete repairs at the circuit level
- Identify faults in finished assemblies and make adjustments or component level repairs as needed
- Develop and follow test procedures based on specifications, blueprints, and drawings
- Document test cases, results, and procedures in an organized and traceable way
- Perform calibration of inspection, measurement, and test equipment as needed to support lab operations
- Ride along with sr. technicians on customer site visits during the contract period for training
- Interact professionally with other technicians, customer service representatives, account managers, and customers
- Maintain a clean and organized lab environment and complete related administrative tasks
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 or more years of experience as an engineering technician working on advanced electronics
- Experience performing root cause analysis and triage on advanced electronic systems
- Experience with characterization, validation, or verification of systems or subsystems
- Experience working in an engineering function such as R&D, NPI, or a lab environment
- Strong troubleshooting skills from the system level down to the component level
- Ability to read and interpret schematics
- Intermediate ability to troubleshoot, repair, align, and optimize precision electronic equipment
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including technical writing
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to perform general math, algebra, and basic statistics functions
- Ability to meet ITAR requirements
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to follow written procedures
Preferred:
- Associate"s degree in electronics or a related technical field
- Experience with programming or scripting in any language
- Experience with hardware EDA tools or CAD layout tools
- Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 17025, or ANSI Z540
- Hands-on experience with RF test and measurement equipment
- Calibration experience, including completion of a military calibration program (PMEL or equivalent) or commercial calibration lab experience
- Familiarity with wireless networks, communications systems, radios, or antenna systems
- Preventive maintenance experience on electronic or communications systems
Work Environment and Schedule
- Full-time, first shift, Monday through Friday, roughly 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- No weekend work
- Primarily in-lab work in a professional electronics test and measurement environment
- Some local field work within a two-hour radius of the lab, with infrequent overnight travel
- Small, specialized team where technical ability and hands-on problem-solving are valued
- Relaxed dress code, typically a polo or nice shirt with jeans and closed-toe shoes
- No routine personal protective equipment requirements
Additional Information
- Contract to hire, with a nine month contract length

- During the contract period, customer site visits are training ride alongs with a sr. technician only. Solo on-site service calls begin after conversion to full-time
