Position Overview
The R&D Laboratory Technician will support new product development, adhesive formulation, laboratory testing, and product performance evaluations in an industrial research and development environment. This hands-on role involves preparing adhesive batches, conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, maintaining equipment, and documenting results while following established safety and quality procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support the development of new products based on customer needs, specifications, and business objectives.
• Prepare adhesive batches and intermediates by weighing raw materials, charging mixers, and following established procedures.
• Conduct laboratory testing on liquid and cured adhesives to evaluate product performance and quality.
• Perform liquid property testing, including viscosity, rheology, and sag panel testing.
• Apply adhesives to substrates using manual or automatic caulking guns and conduct various mechanical property tests.
• Prepare, organize, and condition substrates and samples for laboratory testing.
• Collect, analyze, and document experimental data, identify abnormal results, and communicate findings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support successful product scale-up within established procedures and process capabilities.
• Evaluate new materials and components to support research and development initiatives.
• Transfer, package, and label samples for testing and evaluation.
• Clean mixers and laboratory equipment, including scraping mixer bowls and removing adhesive materials.
• Maintain laboratory equipment by performing routine calibrations or verification checks and documenting results.
• Manage laboratory inventory, order supplies, organize materials, and distribute supplies as needed.
• Maintain clean and organized laboratory benches and work areas, ensuring materials are properly disposed of and supplies are replenished.
• Use an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) to document experimental plans, procedures, and data daily.
• Conduct and document health and safety audits while following established environmental, health, and safety procedures.
• Promote a safe, efficient, and collaborative laboratory environment while developing the skills necessary to work independently.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required. An associate or bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field is preferred.
• Previous laboratory experience in an industrial or research and development (R&D) environment is required.
• Candidates with master's degrees or PhDs will not be considered.
• Knowledge of or experience working with polymers is preferred but not required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as Outlook, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.
• Experience entering, analyzing, and interpreting data using Excel or other software, including the ability to recognize abnormal results.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated, eager to learn new skills, and able to prioritize, organize, and manage responsibilities effectively.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient laboratory environment.
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and move up to 40 pounds. The role also involves daily lifting and moving of material pails weighing up to 50 pounds.
