About the Facility

The Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. VA Medical Center is a tertiary-care, academically affiliated VA medical center serving Veterans across West Tennessee, North Mississippi and East Arkansas. The Radiation Oncology Service is located at 116 N. Pauline St, Memphis, TN 38105, operates an accredited program on Varian Eclipse and ARIA, and is supported by medical physics, dosimetry and therapy staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide the full scope of radiation oncology care for Veterans: consultation, simulation, treatment planning, on-treatment management, discharge and follow-up
• Deliver 3D conformal, IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, SRS and SBRT using Varian Eclipse treatment planning and ARIA record and verify
• Review and approve plans with an on-site medical physics and dosimetry team; complete weekly on-treatment visits
• Lead weekly peer review and chart rounds and take part in multidisciplinary tumor boards
• Coordinate care with medical oncology, surgery, radiology and primary care teams; document in the VA electronic health record
• Support quality, safety and accreditation programs aligned with ACR, ASTRO and AAPM standards

Qualifications

• MD or DO; completion of a Radiation Oncology residency
• Board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR)
• At least 3 years of clinical radiation oncology practice after residency
• Current SRS and SBRT practice, with at least 10 SRS and 10 SBRT cases in the last 2 years
• 3 years working in Varian Eclipse and ARIA (3D conformal, IMRT/VMAT, SRS, SBRT)
• Full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, with a clean license history

Schedule

Full-time, on site in Memphis, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After-hours coverage is by phone, with return to the facility within 60 minutes when medically necessary, under the department’s coverage schedule. Long-term engagement with travel and lodging reimbursed for physicians who live outside the area.
