Founded in 1980, Urban Resource Institute (URI) is the nation’s largest provider of domestic violence shelter and support services and a leading provider of housing and services for families experiencing homelessness. Across 24 shelters in New York City, URI provides safe housing for nearly 4,000 individuals and their pets every night and serves more than 40,000 people annually.

URI’s work is grounded in survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care. In addition to emergency and transitional housing, URI delivers a robust continuum of Justice Initiatives—including economic empowerment, legal education and advocacy, prevention and youth programming, and abusive partner intervention—designed to break cycles of violence, instability, and poverty. URI also develops permanent affordable and supportive housing, advancing long-term pathways to safety, healing, and stability for families and communities.

Salary: $65,000-$72,000

POSITION OVERVIEW

The RAPP Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP) at assigned middle and high school sites and within a designated RAPP Hub. RAPP is a community-based program that focuses on serving middle and high school students throughout NYC to reduce experiences of violence and prevent further harm over a child’s lifetime. The Coordinator provides direct program delivery, facilitation, and youth-centered services grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care.  

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Implementation & Partnerships

• Develop a new hub-based model for RAPP and facilitate programming for middle and high school students at designated hubs and assigned school sites.
• Deliver curriculum centered on relationship abuse prevention, community healing, restorative and transformative justice, and youth leadership.
• Build and maintain partnerships with schools and community organizations.
• Provide individual and group therapeutic or supportive services to youth.
• Represent URI’s RAPP program at school meetings and community events. 

Outreach & Community Engagement

• Conduct proactive outreach to students, faculty, and families to increase program visibility and enrollment within the assigned school sites and RAPP Hub.
• Establish referral pathways with local providers to ensure students have access to comprehensive support services.

Restorative & Transformative Justice (RJ/TJ) 

• Facilitate restorative circles and mediation sessions to address harm, resolve conflicts, and build community within the hub, community and school environments.
• Implement transformative justice frameworks focusing on developing sustainable support for young people and community members who want to be in healthy relationships.

Summer Program & Youth Leadership

• Lead a cohort of 30 youth during a summer intensive focused on developing peer leadership, advocacy, and public speaking skills.
• Prepare youth participants to transition into "Youth Leader" roles within their respective RAPP Hubs for the school year.
• Mentor youth leaders as they design and execute Community Action Projects (CAPs) aimed at raising awareness about relationship abuse and social justice.

Data & Equity Analysis

• Enter all required data accurately and in a timely manner.
• Support equity-driven outreach and service delivery.
• Participate in quality improvement and evaluation efforts.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field with licensure (LMSW, LMHC, or LCSW).

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• At least 2 years’ experience working with youth in school or community-based settings.
• Passion for URI’s mission and commitment to trauma-informed care and restorative practices.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Will be required to read printed and handwritten materials.
