    Job Summary:

The Receiving Inspection Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all incoming material and component inspections to ensure products meet engineering drawings, purchase order requirements, customer specifications, and applicable quality standards before being released to production.

This position supervises receiving inspectors, coordinates inspection priorities with Warehouse, Purchasing, Production, Engineering, and Quality, and ensures nonconforming materials are identified, documented, segregated, and dispositioned through the established quality process.

The supervisor is accountable for maintaining material traceability, preventing defective or incorrect components from entering production, and providing accurate visibility into supplier quality performance and incoming material status.

    Job Duties:

    • Supervise daily receiving inspection activities and assign inspection priorities based on production schedules, project requirements, and material criticality.
    • Ensure incoming materials are inspected against approved drawings, bills of material (BOMs), purchase orders, packing lists, specifications, and applicable inspection criteria.
    • Verify part numbers, quantities, dimensions, materials, finishes, colors, labels, nameplates, hardware, and required certifications.
    • Oversee inspections of electrical components, enclosures, doors, panels, structural components, fabricated parts, painted components, and other PEC building materials.
    • Establish inspection sampling requirements and determine when 100% inspection is necessary based on customer requirements, supplier performance, risk, or quality history.
    • Ensure materials are properly identified and released only after required inspections are completed and documented.
    • Maintain visibility of received, pending inspection, accepted, rejected, and on-hold materials.
    • Ensure nonconforming materials are identified, tagged, documented, and physically segregated to prevent unauthorized use.
    • Initiate or coordinate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) for damaged, missing, incorrect, out-of-tolerance, or specification-deficient materials.
    • Coordinate with Quality Management, Engineering, Purchasing, suppliers, and Production to establish appropriate dispositions, including rework, repair, return to supplier, or approved use-as-is.
    • Verify that required corrective actions and reinspection activities are completed before rejected materials are released.
    • Enforce material hold and release procedures and prevent production personnel from taking uninspected or rejected materials without proper authorization.
    • Escalate recurring defects, critical nonconformances, and supplier performance concerns to Quality Management.
    • Direct, train, and evaluate receiving inspectors to ensure consistent inspection methods and documentation practices.
    • Establish clear expectations for inspection accuracy, productivity, accountability, attendance, safety, and professionalism.
    • Verify inspectors are competent in reading engineering drawings, interpreting specifications, using measuring instruments, and identifying common material defects.
    • Review inspection records and periodically verify inspectors' work for accuracy and completeness.
    • Manage workload, staffing, cross-training, and inspection coverage to support changing production demands.
    • Address performance issues consistently and provide coaching when inspection quality or productivity falls below expectations.
    • Ensure receiving inspection reports, material certifications, inspection photographs, packing lists, and supplier documentation are complete and retrievable.
    • Maintain accurate records of inspection results, rejected quantities, shortages, damaged materials, and supplier corrective actions.
    • Ensure traceability requirements are maintained for applicable materials, components, and customer-specific items.
    • Maintain accurate material status within the applicable ERP, inventory, or quality management system.
    • Support customer audits, internal audits, supplier audits, and quality investigations by providing accurate inspection records.
    • Communicate incoming material issues promptly to Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality Management, and Production.
    • Coordinate with suppliers to clarify defects, request corrective action, and establish expectations for replacement or rework.
    • Monitor supplier defect trends, rejection rates, repeat issues, and inspection workload.
    • Work with Purchasing and Quality Management to identify suppliers requiring increased inspection or corrective action.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing incoming defects, rework, shortages, and production interruptions.
    • Communicate material readiness and inspection constraints during production planning meetings.
