Our client is seeking an experienced Reconstruction Estimator to join their team in the restoration and mitigation industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in residential and commercial reconstruction estimating, damage assessments, budgeting, and project planning. This role involves evaluating property damage, preparing accurate repair estimates, developing scopes of work, and coordinating with project managers, insurance adjusters, and subcontractors. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, proficiency in Xactimate, knowledge of construction practices, and a commitment to delivering accurate, timely, and cost-effective estimates.
Position Overview
The Estimator plays a critical role in developing accurate, complete, and defensible estimates for restoration projects. This position is responsible for reviewing loss information, evaluating property damage, preparing estimates primarily in Xactimate, supporting estimate approvals, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure scopes are clear, profitable, and aligned with standards.
Key Responsibilities
Estimate Development & Scope Accuracy
- Prepare detailed reconstruction and restoration estimates using Xactimate and other approved estimating platforms.
- Review Matterport scans, photos, field documentation, sketches, inspection notes, program requirements, and other available loss information to develop accurate scopes of work.
- Identify missing information, scope gaps, pricing concerns, or documentation needs and communicate promptly with the appropriate field or operations team.
- Ensure estimates include accurate quantities, line items, supporting documentation, photos, notes, and applicable assumptions.
- Align estimates with Kustom's profitability expectations, operational standards, carrier/program requirements, and industry best practices.
- Revise estimates as needed based on updated documentation, field feedback, adjuster responses, supplements, or project changes.
Carrier, Adjuster & Approval Support
- Communicate with insurance adjusters, carriers, consultants, and other stakeholders to support estimate review, negotiation, and approval.
- Prepare and support supplements, revisions, clarifications, and documentation packages needed to justify scope and pricing.
- Provide clear visual and written documentation of damages, repair methodology, and estimate rationale.
- Monitor estimate status and follow up with appropriate urgency to support timely approvals and project movement.
- Maintain professionalism and accuracy in all estimate-related communications.
Customer & Prospect Engagement
- Support customer and prospect communication related to project scope, estimate process, and next steps, as appropriate.
- Explain Kustom's reconstruction and restoration services in a clear, professional, and customer-focused manner.
- Assist in securing Authorizations to Proceed when the role is responsible for customer or prospect engagement.
- Partner with Residential Services Specialists, Project Directors, General Managers, and other team members when site assessments or customer-facing responsibilities are shared.
Competencies & Skills
- Estimating Expertise: Strong understanding of reconstruction/restoration estimating, scope development, repair methodology, supplements, and insurance claim workflows.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Xactimate required; experience with XactAnalysis, Matterport, DASH, Symbility, Salesforce, or similar systems preferred.
- Accuracy & Documentation: High attention to detail with the ability to produce complete, well-supported, and defensible estimates.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain scope, pricing, documentation needs, and estimate rationale clearly.
- Negotiation & Follow-Through: Ability to support estimate approvals through professional communication, persistence, and timely follow-up.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify missing information, resolve scope questions, evaluate alternatives, and make sound recommendations.
- Organization & Prioritization: Ability to manage multiple estimates, deadlines, revisions, and stakeholder requests in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaboration: Ability to partner effectively with operations, field teams, customers, carriers, adjusters, and internal support teams.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–4 years of estimating experience in construction, reconstruction, restoration, mitigation, insurance, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience preparing estimates using Xactimate required.
- Experience with insurance restoration claims, carrier guidelines, supplements, adjuster negotiations, and property-loss documentation preferred.
- Experience using Matterport, XactAnalysis, Symbility, DASH, Salesforce, or similar estimating/project documentation systems preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to learn and use multiple systems and workflow tools.
- Ability to read and interpret photos, sketches, scopes, field notes, diagrams, and other project documentation.
- Strong communication, organization, time management, and follow-through skills.
- Valid driver's license may be required depending on role location, travel expectations, and business needs.
