RECREATION PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, performs a variety of professional and complex recreation duties, including programming, organizing and event arrangement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages assigned recreation programs; schedules recreation facilities, organizes schedules for youth and adult recreation activities. Communicates with the webmaster to post program information including activity guides, flyers, schedules, brackets, etc.
  • Arranges clinics and training sessions for coaches and leaders; assists in establishing appropriate standards among coaches, participants and parents affiliated with city programs and volunteer organizations. Obtains all necessary ROA (right of access) forms for volunteers and staff.
  • Plans, organizes and supervises youth and adult sports and sport events. Develops program budgets and operates within the guidelines of budgets. Promotes programs by creating public information materials; implements various advertisement methods to the public. Manages and coordinates all bidding, ordering, distribution, collection inventory and storage of both youth and adult uniforms and equipment. Conducts equipment needs assessments; facilitates maintenance and replacement of equipment.
  • Supervises program employees; assists in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of facility supervisors, officials, scorekeepers and volunteer coaches. Assures adequate staff coverage of programs; ensures adherence to operational policies and procedures; enforces rules and regulations. Works closely with human resources to obtain and follow through on necessary paperwork for all employees.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other division personnel for program field usage, outside field rentals and concessions for programs and special events. Coordinate with district personnel for usage of school and city facilities through the inter-local agreement.
  • Assists other staff members and the public as needed.

Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.

Must live within 30 minutes' travel time from Spanish Fork's city limits in order to respond to emergencies.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management or closely related field, plus three (3) years of professional experience in recreation program management or equivalent education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of word processing, scheduling software, spreadsheets, and graphics programs.
  • Ability to research and assess community recreation needs and develop programs that meet the interests of diverse public user groups.
  • Skill in organizing leagues, tournaments, game schedules, brackets, and special events efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to analyze program value and cost-effectiveness, prepare accurate records, reports, and financial statements.
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations fairly and tactfully while maintaining positive public relations.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills in daily operations and during events.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective under pressure, including during difficult or stressful situations.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Utah Driver License.
