Registered Nurse - ICU

• Assesses patient needs to determine care requirements.
• Plans care and delegates tasks to ancillary personnel based on patient assessment.
• Evaluates patient response to care provided and makes changes in plan for care as needed.
• Promotes patient/family independence through provision of education related to patient's condition, treatment, medications and on-going self-care requirements.

• Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills independently.
• Synthesizes information and resources to care for complex, higher acuity patients.
• Completes designated unit specific competencies.
• Completes at least 16 hours of continuing education, in addition to mandatory in-service requirements, within the last year that is specific to daily clinical practice.
• Interdisciplinary communication and administrative support. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and facilitates discharge planning and patient education.
• A Registered Nurse must also demonstrate three of the six criteria below:

1. Demonstrates ability to function as charge nurse.
2. Actively participates as a member or co-chair of organizational and/or unit specific committees.
3. Acts as a resource for specific specialty area by providing in-service education, validating competence of peers or unlicensed personnel, and/or precepts new nurses.
4. Provides constructive input for evaluation of unit process and unlicensed personnel.
5. Maintains membership in a professional organization.
6. Participates in volunteer or community outreach.
7. Coordinates discharge planning by identifying discharge needs, implementing/revising and communicating plan in     collaboration with the patient/family/significant others. 
8. Care coordination and patient workflow support: Discusses patient progress, problems and needs with physician and multidisciplinary team members on a regular basis to ensure that goals for discharge are met.     
9. Clinical Documentation and compliance processes. Assures high levels of quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards, reference to current research related to patient care outcome and participation in the data collection and analysis process of ongoing quality monitoring. Data tracking, reporting, or process improvement activities
10. Uses supplies in a cost effective and efficient manner and works with the management team to make unit supply level adjustments, additions and revisions.
