Med Surg 2 is a fast-paced inpatient unit that cares for both surgical and medical patients. As a Clinical Nurse, you will work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to provide compassionate, high-quality, evidence-based care throughout the patient's hospital stay. About Med Surg 2
Med Surg 2 is a medical-surgical inpatient unit specializing in the care of adult patients who are preparing for or recovering from surgical procedures. Our patient population primarily includes orthopedic, urology, OB/GYN, and general surgery patients, while also caring for medical patients with infections, wounds, dementia, mental health crises, and chronic health conditions.
Our mission is to provide safe, high-quality care that supports patients in achieving a smooth recovery and returning to their baseline level of health.
Position Responsibilities
As a Clinical Nurse, you will:
- Provide and coordinate competent, evidence-based nursing care across the care continuum.
- Utilize the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Monitor patient conditions and communicate changes in status to the healthcare team.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions in accordance with policy and standards of practice.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, care managers, and other healthcare professionals to achieve patient goals.
- Participate in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and professional development activities.
- Document patient care accurately and timely.
- Adhere to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
Schedule & Work Expectations
Shift Options
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
Employment Status
- Full-Time: Three (3) 12-hour shifts per week
- Part-Time: Two (2) 12-hour shifts per week
Additional Requirements
- Every third weekend rotation
- Holiday rotation
- Self-scheduling, with schedule preferences considered while balancing overall unit staffing needs
- Consistent availability required; reduced hour or PRN scheduling accommodations are not available at this time
Qualifications
Required
- Requires an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program. Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
- Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
