• Shift / Schedule: Night shift, 12-hour nights (4x12), 18:45 7:15

Job Summary

This is a fast-paced Medical-Surgical/Telemetry travel nursing position caring for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients. The unit has an average daily census of 37, with 39 rooms and 39 beds. Ortho and spine patients require nurses who can stay on top of their pain management. The unit operates with an expected ratio of 5 6:1, which can flex up to 7:1 only in extreme cases. Covid patients are no longer cohorted to a specific Covid unit; all Covid patients, unless they end up in ICU, are cared for on all units wherever they are when confirmed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patient populations.
• Manage pain for ortho and spine patients, staying on top of pain management needs in a fast-paced environment.
• Float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census, as required.
• Work every other weekend; if an RN calls out on a weekend, they will be required to make that time up on a weekend.
• Perform IV starts and monitor telemetry as part of routine patient care.
• Adhere to strict RTO policy: no RTO after booking and no working out onsite; any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR.
• No holiday RTO will be approved under any circumstances.

Required Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience required; must have orthopedic (ORTHO) work experience.
• IV Start proficiency.
• Telemetry monitoring skills.
• EPIC experience required (unit will accept first-time travelers with EPIC experience).
• BCLS certification.
• NIH certification.

Preferred Skills

• ACLS certification.
• Charge Nurse experience.
• Level I Trauma experience.

Education Requirements

• BCLS certification required.
• NIH certification required.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only).

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Fast-paced unit; nurses must be able to manage high patient acuity and stay on top of pain management for ortho and spine patients.
• Expected nurse-to-patient ratio of 5 6:1; can flex up to 7:1 in extreme cases only.
• Float requirement: travelers could be required to float to any other med-surg unit within the facility to meet staffing needs based on census.
• Every other weekend required; call-outs on weekends must be made up on a weekend.
• 36 or 48 hours per week can be offered.
• Block scheduling option available (F/S/S or S/S/M schedule).
• No holiday RTO approved.
• 7 days maximum RTO for AYA auto offer.
• Covid patients are cared for on all units (not cohorted to a specific unit) unless they are transferred to ICU.

Important Notes

• RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly turn into a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.
• Locals are accepted; a rate difference may apply.
• Manager interview required before offer.
