Registered Nurse - Operating Room (RN OR)

Location: Houston, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $54.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Thursday | 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Dean's Professional Services is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN OR) to support a leading healthcare system in Houston, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced OR nurse with strong scrub and circulating experience who is comfortable supporting complex surgical procedures, including neurological, orthopedic, general, and robotic surgery.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative process.

   

• Serve as both a scrub and circulating RN, supporting surgical procedures and maintaining a safe, efficient operating room environment.

   

• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

   

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and monitor patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.

   

• Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instruments, supplies, and medications according to procedure requirements.

   

• Maintain strict sterile technique and ensure compliance with infection prevention and patient safety standards.

   

• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures.

   

• Support general surgery, general orthopedics, neurosurgery, and robotic surgical procedures.

   

• Provide patient education and emotional support while maintaining patient privacy and dignity.

   

• Accurately document patient care, procedures, medications, and other clinical information in Epic.

   

• Demonstrate effective charge nurse skills, including coordinating workflow and supporting staff as needed.

   

• Maintain accurate medical records and communicate effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.

   

• Respond appropriately to urgent clinical situations and support a safe surgical environment.

   

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required.

   

• Minimum 5 years of recent Operating Room nursing experience required.

   

• Scrub and circulating RN experience required.

   

• Previous charge nurse experience required.

   

• Strong Neurosurgery/Neuro OR experience required.

   

• Experience with general surgery and general orthopedics required.

   

• Robotic surgery experience preferred.

   

• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record charting required.

   

• Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices, sterile technique, surgical procedures, and patient safety standards.

   

• Excellent communication, critical-thinking, leadership, and teamwork skills.

   

• Ability to work independently and effectively during overnight shifts.
