    Part Time Day Shift

    Summary

    Under the direction of the department manager and supervision of a Charge Nurse/Team Lead, demonstrates proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Develops and participates in the care plan of the patient.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
    • Desire to work within a comprehensive healthcare team.
    • Demonstrates a knowledge base related to the following through previous evaluations and education documentation:
    • Collection and processing of data related to physiological and psychosocial needs of non-critical and critical status patients.
    • Identification of nursing diagnosis.
    • Development of a comprehensive plan for nursing care.
    • Implementation of a plan of nursing care.
    • Evaluation of care based on observable patient responses.
    • Basic level computer skills required for:
    • Accessing and navigating Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) intranet for forms, policies and procedures.
    • Accessing and entering data on organization wide software such as the timekeeping system and Outlook email.
    • Accessing and using internet and specific applications required to perform job requirements.

    Unit Specific Requirements:

    Ambulatory Infusion Center

    Required:

    • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Provider Card with course completion required within six (6) months of hire or entry into the position.
    • Required Tumor Board meeting - minimum attendance.
    • One (1) per month for Full Time employees.
    • Six (6) meetings per year for Part Time employees.
    • Three (3) meetings per year for Per Diem employees.

    Preferred:

    • Chemotherapy experience

    Cardiac Rehabilitation

    Required:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers within three (3) months of hire or entry into the position.

    Medical Imaging

    Required:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers upon hire or entry into the position.
    • Completion of Relias training course for Moderate and Deep Sedation within seven (7) days of hire or entry into the position.

    Outpatient Procedures

    Required:

    • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers at hire or entry into the position
    • New Graduates must complete American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers within six (6) months of hire or entry into the position.
    • Completion of Moderate Sedation course within thirty (30) days of hire or entry into the position.

    Essential Functions

    Patient Assessment

    • Obtains and documents nursing history from the patient and/or significant other that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems
    • Performs basic assessment of the patient, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Basic assessment will include any language or cultural needs of the patient.
    • Assesses vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed.
    • Makes pertinent observation, using language that correctly describes anatomy and physiology and draws logical conclusions which direct formation of nursing care plan.
    • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
    • Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards.
    • Demonstrates ability to expertly navigate electronic medical records and paper documentation to review orders when performing/receiving handover communication and chart checks as per hospital policy

    Nursing Care Plan

    • Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
    • Reviews and develops care plans for assigned patients.
    • Includes the patient and his or her family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
    • Documents an individualized care plan based upon the changing needs of the patient and incorporates each patients' chronic and acute conditions.

    Plan Implementation

    • Uses care plans as a basis for providing safe and therapeutic care to patients.
    • Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care.
    • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
    • Communicates with the patient and his or her family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan. Utilizes all tools available, such as interpreters, Marti units, and language access network (LAN), in a timely manner to communicate with the patient in their preferred language to meet regulatory compliance
    • Indicates an understanding of the roles of other health care team members in patient care and incorporates their input into the care plan
    • Performs competently those technical skills considered basic to the type of care given on that unit.
    • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
    • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans
    • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations
    • Acts independently and makes decisions under stress as necessary

    Evaluation

    • Evaluates and notes the individual patient's response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records.
    • Identifies strengths and weaknesses of nursing care systems and actively participates in change by utilizing the Performance Improvement process.

    Leadership

    • Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
    • Attends 80% of scheduled staff meetings/unit conferences. The RN will be expected to make evidence-based practice recommendations for improvement of the delivery of patient care via the patient care conference and unit conference.
    • Demonstrates customer oriented approach through the expression of respect and understanding when communicating with others.
    • May be required to function as Team Leader.

    Education

    • Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and unit specific education. Assists in teaching individual and groups of patients in established programs.
    • Attends/completes 100% of all required Unit and Hospital education events and meets established deadlines in doing so.
    • Assists/Serves in the teaching/preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals with clinical time on the Unit.
    • Commits to the creation of an educational and professional climate that encourages students to attain their maximum potential and fosters originality and intellectual inquiry.
    • Self identifies and seeks guidance when encountering nursing procedures and responsibilities that have not been mastered. Seeks out and communicates need for additional learning experiences.
    • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.

    May function as preceptor if selected by the Unit Manager and after successful completion of Preceptor Workshop. Preceptor Pay then applies to the following situations:

    • Nurse Apprentices - senior nursing students hired as per diem to a home unit prior to graduation.
    • New grad RNs - new to the unit and profession on extended orientation (e.g., 6-12 weeks).
    • Staff placed on improvement or education/action plans requiring extended orientation with demonstration of competency within an outlined timeframe.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
