  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 3 months
  • Pay Rate: $75.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 3x12 Hours (19:00 7:30)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks traveler can be called off for 1, 12-hour shift per 2 weeks
  • Travel Requirements: Local candidates not accepted candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

This is a Stepdown unit from ICU with a wide variety of patient populations serving multiple disciplines. A Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model is utilized on this unit for every patient there is 1 bedside RN, a Virtual RN, and 1 CNA. The bedside RN ratio is 1:4 and CNA patient ratios are 1:6. The virtual nurse works remotely and assists patients with admission, discharge, rounding, education, plans of care, and safety rounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide bedside nursing care in a stepdown/PCU environment with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Care for a diverse patient population including approximately 30% cardiac patients: CHF, MI, S/p TAVR, MVR patients, pacemaker patients, cardiac arrhythmia patients, drug load patients, Angiovac, and similar
  • Manage respiratory patients including COVID, flu, COPD, and asthma exacerbations, trach patients (>24h since placement), and chronic home ventilator patients; perform high flow NC and BIPAP
  • Provide overflow care for neuro patients and renal patients
  • Manage complicated medical-surgical patients requiring higher level of monitoring (ETOH WD, GIB, etc.)
  • Float within scope to meet facility needs lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, MS
  • Collaborate within the Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model alongside a Virtual RN and CNA for each patient
  • Provide weekend coverage, which could be more frequent than every other weekend and is subject to staffing needs

Education Requirements

  • AK RN license required must have license in hand for Auto Offer (pending license accepted for submittal, but license must be in hand at time of offer)
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification required

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted

  • Magnet Facility, Level II Trauma, USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
