  • Position Type: Contract (Travel/Contract)
  • Contract Duration: 3 months
  • Pay Rate: $45.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Night Shift 6:45 PM 7:15 AM (3x12 Hours); 36 hours only

Job Summary

This is a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel/contract nursing position at a healthcare facility in Wilmington, NC. The unit manages a high-acuity cardiac and vascular patient population, including post-surgical, post-cath, and post-electrophysiology cases. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary per acuity: 1:4 for surgical step-down and 1:5 6 for lower acuity. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients with diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, CAD, Aortic Stenosis/Regurgitation, Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis, Endocarditis, Cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, Vasculitis, Carotid Stenosis, and Venous Stasis
  • Perform and assist with special procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman procedure), VATS, Carotid Endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, Amputations, other vascular surgeries, cardiac surgeries, thoracic surgeries, general thoracic surgery, post cath, post DCCV, post electrophysiology procedures, and pacemaker placements
  • Manage sheath removal and sheath management
  • Operate and monitor special equipment including Doppler, Bladder Scanner, EKG, Femoral Sheaths, TR Band, Fem-Stop, Chest Tubes, and Epicardial Pacing Wires
  • Utilize unit systems: Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), and SBAR (communication)
  • Follow unit float rotation not first to float
  • Fulfill weekend requirement of 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible)
  • Report to work as assigned during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters as part of Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team duties

  • Traveler experience required UNLESS traveler has more than 24 months of cardiac experience

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Night shift: 6:45 PM 7:15 AM, 36 hours only (3x12)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary per acuity: 1:4 for surgical step-down; 1:5 6 for lower acuity
  • Float requirement: will follow unit rotation not first to float
  • Weekend requirement: 4 per 4 weeks (flexible)
  • Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster
  • Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur; contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Important Notes

  • RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
  • Every candidate will be interviewed. Please provide interview availability for the next 72 hours when submitting. Manager will not offer without speaking to the candidate first.
  • Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
