The DuPont Clinic is a referral center for all-trimester abortion and ultrasound-guided procedures including for abnormal or high risk pregnancies and for people with complex medical situations who may have difficulty accessing care. We provide the highest level of medical care and a private experience focused on the individual needs of each patient. The Registered Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the team creating the patient experience and ensuring patient safety. The RN has the highest standards for patient safety, is motivated to create a positive patient experience, strongly supports bodily autonomy, and ideally speaks a second language. This position also has the opportunity for learning, including ultrasound, abortion care, labor management, and gynecologic care. The RN reports to the Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties

Maintaining the highest level of trauma-informed patient-centered care Providing clinical care, including: • History-taking • Procedural and contraception counseling • Procedural consents • Providing moderate sedation with physician oversight Evaluating patients prior to and after medical procedures Utilizing Quickbase EMR to input patient relevant information Performing appropriate monitoring before, during, and after procedures Working with staff to ensure that the DuPont Clinic complies with all applicable regulations Participating in team emergency drills, training, and meetings Performing routine checks on equipment, medications, and other supplies as needed Communicating effectively with all members of the patient-care team Assisting with the training and on-boarding of new staff as needed Actively demonstrates, promotes, and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Minimum of 1 year RN experience required
  • Active License RN in the District of Columbia
  • Strong commitment to a persons autonomy
  • Flexibility with scheduling
  • Commitment to improving patient experience of care
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn

Preferred

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, native speaker preferred
  • Abortion care, obstetrical, reproductive health, and/or operating room experience
  • Experience providing sedation
  • Knowledge of the political landscape involving abortion care

This position is full-time with a 4-day week, with occasional on-call responsibilities and mandatory attendance of virtual office meetings from home. Some night work may be required on an infrequent basis. No weekends.

The position is subject to hazards, including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals, including odors.

The worker, at times, is required to wear a facemask, gown, and/or gloves.

The position has a likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials.

This position requires the ability to work under stress and handle the care of multiple patients.

The position may require heavy lifting and a high level of critical thinking.
