Job Description

Hilo Benioff Medical Center, part of the East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Professional Nurse III to join our East Hawaii Health Cancer Center team. This position provides direct patient care within the Medical Oncology department, including chemotherapy administration, infusion therapies, patient education, and coordination of oncology care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering safe, patient-centered oncology services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to oncology patients, including assessment, documentation, medication administration, and monitoring patient responses to treatment.
  • Administer chemotherapy, infusion therapies, and intravenous treatments in accordance with physician orders and established safety protocols.
  • Educate patients and families regarding chemotherapy, medications, treatment plans, side effects, nutrition, and disease management.
  • Access and maintain central venous access devices, perform venipuncture, and monitor patients for adverse reactions or treatment complications.
  • Collaborate with physicians, colleagues, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and coordinate individualized patient care plans.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards related to hazardous medications, infection control, radiation exposure, and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Experience: Minimum of six (6) months of professional nursing experience.
  • Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one (1) month of hire; Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.
  • Licensure: Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Benefits

Registered Nurses will receive step movement salary increases based on total recent RN experience (within the past 5 years) and satisfactory service with the employer. Based on the 7/1/2025 salary schedule, nurses will receive pay increases according to the following schedule:

  • $110,136 $114,576/year: Eligible after 3+ months with the employer and a total of 12+ months RN experience.
  • $110,136 $119,088/year: Eligible after 3+ months with the employer and a total of 18+ months RN experience.
  • $110,136 $123,876/year: Eligible after 3+ months with the employer and a total of 24+ months RN experience.

* Rates listed are for 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) positions. Rates are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
