About the Role

We are hiring a creative and methodical Remote Interior Designer - Residential Space Planning & Drafting to help shape projects during design and pre-construction. You will study field information, explore layout solutions, and communicate the selected direction through accurate drawings, realistic renderings, and cohesive presentation boards.

The ideal contractor combines a designer's eye with a drafter's discipline. You understand the everyday use of American kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces, but you also respect dimensions, specifications, and construction realities. Because the work is fully remote, you must be comfortable gathering clarification, explaining concerns, and collaborating closely without being physically present at the project site.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate project goals, field measurements, photographs, video, and sketches to understand existing residential conditions.
• Develop thoughtful space plans for kitchens, bathrooms, living areas, additions, and larger renovation projects.
• Explore options that improve flow, proportion, storage, sightlines, and everyday function.
• Convert approved concepts into scaled floor plans, cabinetry elevations, design details, and construction documents.
• Create compelling 3D renderings that communicate spatial relationships, materials, and the overall design direction.
• Build cohesive client presentation boards using Lake Studio's templates and visual standards.
• Coordinate fixtures, finishes, cabinetry, and product information with the drawings.
• Potentially assist with sourcing appropriately styled and sized materials, hardware, lighting, and fixtures.
• Confirm that layouts reflect common U.S. residential dimensions, clearances, and planning practices.
• Review all deliverables for alignment with measurements, specifications, selections, and written instructions.
• Ask targeted questions whenever information is missing instead of filling gaps with assumptions.
• Respond constructively to feedback and complete revisions within agreed-upon timelines.
• Organize design assets and editable files so the broader project team can access current information.
• Collaborate with Lake Studio's owner and project partners while managing several assignments at different stages.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of professional experience in residential interior design, architectural drafting, space planning, or a related field preferred.
• Portfolio demonstrating original residential layouts, floor plans, elevations, and completed design work.
• Strong experience with kitchen, bathroom, or residential-remodeling design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar professional CAD software used to create accurate construction documents.
• Experience developing 3D models, photorealistic renderings, and client-ready presentations.
• Sound understanding of residential scale, proportion, cabinetry, furniture placement, fixtures, and circulation.
• Knowledge of U.S. residential planning conventions, common dimensions, and required clearances.
• Refined visual sense for materials, color, finishes, and cohesive design composition.
• Detail-oriented work habits and the ability to self-check drawings before submission.
• Clear, proactive communication and comfort receiving detailed direction and revisions.
• Ability to manage independent work, shifting priorities, and project deadlines reliably.
• Degree or formal training in interior design, architecture, drafting, or a related discipline preferred.
• Dependable computer, high-speed internet, and an appropriate professional workspace.
• Portfolios relying only on AI-generated images will not be considered; candidates must show original technical and space-planning work.

Pay and Benefits

• Ongoing, part-time independent contractor engagement, beginning at approximately 10 hours per week.
• Pay: $30 - $40 per hour, depending on professional experience, portfolio quality, technical proficiency, and level of independent responsibility.
• Fully remote work with flexibility in how assignments are scheduled, subject to meetings and deadlines.
• Weekly hours will vary according to the number and stage of active projects.
• Potential to take on more hours, projects, and finish-selection work as the company grows.
• Lake Studio may provide an approved drafting-software subscription when appropriate.
• Contractors supply their own computer, internet, home-office setup, insurance, and customary business resources.
• Health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and other employee benefits are not offered for this contractor engagement.
