Repair Foreman

Job purpose

The foreman’s primary responsibility is to coordinate production crews in the daily execution of projects.  To ensure that production crews are working in the most efficient and safest manner possible while producing the highest quality of work for our customers.  Safety, quality, efficiency, and our company’s guiding principles must be applied to all daily activities.  It is every employee’s responsibility to always represent Conrad Shipyard in a professional manner.

Duties and responsibilities

• Work as a team with the project manager and others to coordinate and ensure the successful execution of all projects.
• Must be knowledgeable of all company policies, procedures, and guiding principles.  Adherence and enforcement are a requirement for this position.
• Must be knowledgeable of company safety and environmental policies and enforce same.
• Must accurately complete all required paperwork and reporting documentation including but not limited to JSA’s, hot work permits, time sheets, night shift turnover sheets, incident reports, work orders, employee write-ups, testing reports, and weekly inspection reports.
• Must be able to take responsibility for the safe and efficient execution of projects.
• Responsible for all employees working in a safe manner and they have what they need to work in a safe manner.
• Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping on all projects and throughout the facility. 
• Ensure competent person inspections, marine chemist certificates, and scaffolding inspections are up to date daily before the work shift begins.
• Responsible for the daily inspection of the project/vessel for condition changes.  Identify and correct any conditions that are unsafe for entry or hot work. 
• Responsible for ensuring all work performed meets or exceeds the highest quality standards.  Perform continual inspections throughout the project and correct any deficiencies in quality.
• Responsible for planning and organizing production crews so each task is appropriately staffed and completed in the most efficient and safest manner possible.  Including all necessary fire watch personnel.
• Coordinate with operators, paint crews, and material personnel as required for the execution of projects.
• Coordinate with yard superintendent for any additional labor, equipment and subcontractor requirements.
• Coordinate daily activities with Conrad and customer furnished subcontractors.
• Coordinate with night crew foreman and provide night shift with a turnover sheet.   Review turnover sheet notes provided by night shift and inspect the work performed every morning.
• Coordinate with project managers on the execution strategy for projects.  Communicate with project managers about any changes to scope of work or additional work requested by Owner or Owner’s Rep.
• Evaluate each task to be performed for potential scope of work changes or hazards prior to organizing the work.  Communicate any differences to the assigned project manager.
• Manage and support leadermen to ensure maximum productivity of craftsmen. Ensure that projects are staffed and managed to meet project schedules and man hour targets.
• Provide constant communication with assigned leadermen regarding budget hours, schedule, and expectations regarding project task.
• Plan project task(s) in advance of execution to ensure materials are on hand prior to starting task(s) so material delays are limited or eliminated.
• Identify any problems as they arise and coordinate with the project manager to develop and implement a corrective action plan.
• Perform employee evaluations and recommend status changes.
• Perform disciplinary write-ups and actions for safety, production, and attitude deficiencies.
• Work directly with customer or customer’s representative in a professional manner.

Working Conditions

• Work is outdoors. There is no air conditioning or heating. 
• Uneven surfaces throughout job site, with sand, limestone, concrete, and railways outside, as well as concrete and railways inside. Numerous trip hazards throughout.
