Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support our multidisciplinary research on neutrophil biology, sickle cell disease, and immunology. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong organizational and record-keeping skills, who can efficiently multi-task while maintaining precision and scientific rigor.

This role involves both wet lab work, animal model management, and research participant coordination/consenting, with opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge projects involving innate immunity, sickle cell disease, and response to transfusion therapy.

The primary responsibilities of this position include: participation in day-to-day laboratory research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator (including experimental set-up, completion, data collection and data analysis), animal colony management (including animal husbandry, genotyping, phenotyping, and daily monitoring of experimental mice), and coordination of patient research participants. Skills frequently utilized to complete daily tasks include: basic lab skills (e.g. pipetting, loading a gel), mouse dissection, flow cytometry, cell culture, and sterile technique. Additionally, animal husbandry and colony management rely on basic knowledge of genetics (e.g. Mendelian inheritance patterns).

Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree and at least one and one-half years of related experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in biology or a related field and at least 1 year of laboratory experience. This position requires the technical ability to complete procedures and properly record and report results. Applicants with experience in animal colony management and animal husbandry are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with flow cytometry will be an advantage.
