    About Periodic Labs

We are an AI + physical sciences lab building state of the art models to make novel scientific discoveries. We are well funded and growing rapidly. Team members are owners who identify and solve problems without boundaries or bureaucracy. We eagerly learn new tools and new science to push forward our mission.

    About the Role

Join a world-class team of scientists and engineers pushing the boundaries of physical r&d in a groundbreaking lab where AI and automation unlock discoveries at unprecedented speed and scale.

Periodic Labs is seeking a hands-on Research Associate in Thin Films Materials Discovery. You will execute advanced deposition and nanofabrication processes, generate high-quality experimental data, and collaborate closely with AI and materials teams to translate precise lab work into scalable, data-driven breakthroughs.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position, with the potential to convert to full time.

    Responsibilities

    • Execute thin-film deposition and related nanofabrication processes using advanced equipment in shared lab environments

    • Prepare substrates, manage process flows, and maintain detailed experimental records

    • Perform basic structural and materials characterization to evaluate film quality and properties

    • Troubleshoot process issues and iterate quickly under guidance from senior team members

    • Collaborate with AI and materials teams by generating high-quality experimental data

    • Follow rigorous laboratory safety and facility protocols

    Qualifications

    • Currently pursuing or recently completed a PhD (or advanced graduate degree) in materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field — OR equivalent hands-on experience in research labs or process engineering

    • Strong background in nanofabrication or thin-film processing in university or research lab environments

    • Hands-on experience operating thin-film deposition or related fabrication tools

    • Ability to ramp up quickly on new equipment and experimental workflows

    • Strong documentation habits and attention to detail

    • Comfortable working independently in shared research facilities

    Preferred Background

    • Experience in university nanofabrication facilities (e.g., cleanroom environments)

    • Familiarity with sputtering, evaporation, PLD, ALD, or related techniques

    • Experience with basic thin-film characterization methods

    • Exposure to materials research involving novel compounds or device structures

    • Interest in working at the intersection of experimental science and AI-driven discovery
