Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer Optical Networking to support the Zayo account - Nokia. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in optical transport networks, networking technologies, and hands-on experience with Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) and Nokia WaveSuite Network Operations Center (NOC).

This role will provide technical support, troubleshooting, network operations assistance, and engineering expertise for optical networking infrastructure. The candidate must be based in the United States and able to work remotely from their home office while supporting the customer's technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide resident engineering support for the Zayo account, focusing on optical transport and networking technologies.
• Support, troubleshoot, and maintain Nokia 1830 PSS optical transport platforms.
• Utilize Nokia WaveSuite NOC for network monitoring, fault management, alarm analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Diagnose and resolve optical network issues, service disruptions, and performance-related problems.
• Analyze network alarms, investigate faults, and coordinate resolution of complex technical issues.
• Support optical network provisioning, configuration, testing, and service activation as required.
• Collaborate with customer engineering, operations, and technical teams to resolve network incidents and maintain service reliability.
• Perform root cause analysis and provide recommendations to prevent recurring network issues.
• Document troubleshooting activities, incident resolutions, configurations, and technical procedures.
• Provide technical guidance and ensure adherence to customer network standards and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience in optical transport networking and telecommunications technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Nokia 1830 PSS is mandatory.
• Strong working knowledge of Nokia WaveSuite NOC is mandatory.
• Experience with optical network monitoring, fault isolation, alarm management, and troubleshooting.
• Good understanding of optical transport systems, network architecture, and service delivery.
• Experience supporting live production networks and resolving customer-impacting incidents.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate effectively with customer and engineering teams.
• Must be currently based in the United States and able to work remotely from a dedicated home office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting large-scale carrier or service provider optical networks.
• Knowledge of DWDM, ROADM, optical transmission, and fiber-optic networking.
• Experience with network performance monitoring, service provisioning, and fault management.
• Prior experience working with telecommunications service providers or network operators.

Work Environment

• Fully remote position within the United States.
• The engineer will work from a home office and provide technical support for the Zayo account.
• The candidate must be comfortable working independently and coordinating with customer-facing and technical teams.
