Position Summary: The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Retail Sales Associate who has an authentic interest in the mission and work of the VMHC. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting retail sales in the museum shop and have experience in customer service, strong organizational skills, and a passion for history is a plus! This is a forward-facing, in person position that will require active, ongoing engagement with guests, colleagues and other visitors to the Museum Duties & Responsibilities: Assist the Retail Coordinator in on-site and e-commerce sales, stocking, shipping and inventory managementCreate a positive work environment and be a visible presence in the museum store Support ongoing museum programs, events, and work with the Events & Hospitality Services team to provide retail support for facility rentals, events, and meetingsAvailable to work on weekends and holidays that the museum is open. The standard schedule for this position will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, plus additional days if needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary: Knowledge of point of sales systems as well as retail best practicesAbility to effectively multi-task on the sales floorMaintain a clean well-stocked sales floorExcellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills Education & Experience Requirements:Previous retail experience, preferably in a museum settingE-commerce experience preferred Notes & Special Requirements:This is a temporary position through the end of January 2027.
