Assignment description
The goal of the RF (Radio Frequency) internship project is to benchmark and establish standards for RT (Room Temperature) electronics and components. For example, one objective is to understand how properties such as phase noise affect qubit coherence time by simulating and modeling the key parameters influencing the property and system. With the identified parameter, the influence it has on the system will be modelled, simulated, and measured against QPU characteristics to confirm the effect it has on the system. Using all this information, a specification requirement necessary for RT electronics will be identified.
Project scope
Identify one parameter that is measurable and testable, such as:
Crosstalk
Linearity
SFDR (spurious free dynamic range)
Output power/SNR (signal to noise ratio)
Phase noise/jitter
Simulate and model the effect the testable parameter has on the system and thus QPU performance
Find experiments to characterize how these parameters affect qubit experiments
Perform experiments on current setup to benchmark components.
Correlate data from qubit experiments with specifications of components.
Required set of skills & experiences
We are looking for a motivated MSc student in applied physics, electrical engineering, or a similar field, with a strong background in quantum mechanics and an understanding of RT electronics and components. Familiarity with the following would be valuable:
