    Job Description

Amazon"s Global Environmental Assurance and Protection team works to make Amazon the global benchmark for environmental excellence across our operations. As the NA Launch Program Manager, you own the lifecycle of Amazon"s most complex environmental launch and emergency response programs across North America and turn an ambiguous, fast-moving regulatory landscape into program frameworks the field can execute. That scope covers environmental permitting and regulatory readiness for new site launches, emergency and spill response planning, incident management and contingency programs, and emerging launch and response regulatory obligations across the region. You take partially defined business problems and regulatory requirements and build them into structured programs with clear objectives, milestones, and success criteria, owning each program through its pilot and scaled rollout.

As an individual contributor, you own the strategic definition and lifecycle management of these launch and emergency response programs. You break ambiguous challenges into program plans that account for real field constraints, define what "done" looks like, and design the systems, processes, and tools, with measurement built in, that the field organization adopts and sustains on its own. You partner with legal, regulatory affairs, operations, technology, design and construction, due diligence, and procurement to keep programs aligned with the operating model, and you contribute to internal operations planning while owning goals within the NA launch and emergency response program portfolio.

You identify and influence cross-functional investments that solve long-term launch readiness and emergency response requirements, negotiating resources, priorities, and timelines across organizations. You build business cases with quantified risk and return, present them to director and vice-president audiences, and represent EAP in cross-functional planning forums so that launch and emergency response requirements are built into business decisions. You own the program governance, business reviews, escalation paths, and metric dashboards that surface risk and drive accountability in real time, and you stand in for the senior manager independently in business reviews and cross-functional forums with full ownership.

This role requires independent judgment, a high tolerance for ambiguity, and the ability to find a path forward where solutions are not predefined, driving cross-functional alignment without pushing decisions upward. You communicate technical compliance requirements clearly to executive, operational, and legal audiences, and you use data and business intelligence to look around corners, spotting and mitigating risk before it surfaces. If you are motivated by solving complex regulatory problems at scale and building the compliance infrastructure to match, this role is for you.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Translate the compliance vision into functional programs. Integrate them into annual and multi-year planning and shape the budgets that fund them, weighing near-term compliance needs against long-term infrastructure investment.
    • Work independently in an ambiguous, high-stakes regulatory environment, finding paths forward where no solution is predefined and driving alignment without pushing decisions upward.
    • Own compliance programs end to end, taking problem definitions through pilot to full rollout, and build the resulting standards into daily operations so field teams sustain them on their own.
    • Build the metrics and review system that holds the program accountable, covering KPIs, business reviews, escalation paths, and dashboards that give leaders real-time visibility into performance, milestones, and regulatory standing.
    • Report program status, risks, and escalations clearly to director and vice-president audiences across operations, legal, finance, and technology, and stand in for the senior manager in business reviews and cross-functional forums.
    • Oversee third-party contractors, consultants, and inspection vendors, holding them to program milestones and quality standards through structured audits.
    • Travel up to 25 to 50% of the time.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
