The RN Care Coordinator, Maternal Fetal Medicine is responsible for the triage and assessment of referrals received from outside medical centers, offices, and internal referrals for MFM consult, fetal diagnosis and treatment center (FDTC) and complete obstetric care. Coordinates and provides direct patient care for all Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center and Perinatal Assessment and Consultation Clinic patients ensuring communication with internal perinatal services care teams, referring providers and pediatric specialists. Performs the daily operations along with physician leaders of the program.
Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care for perinatal assessment and consultative clinic (PAC) and fetal diagnosis and treatment center (FDTC) patients.
Completes external fetal monitoring • Successful completion of a fetal monitoring course that provides overview of intrapartum fetal monitoring, including the maternal-fetal oxygenation pathway, assessing uterine activity and recognizing, interpreting, and managing FHR patterns. • MFM RN can define the characteristics of FHR and uterine activity obtained via auscultation. palpation, and EFM methods and interpret electronic FHR and uterine patterns.
Arranges, facilitates, and follows up on multidisciplinary maternal or fetal care conferences.
Care for patient undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit.
Educates the patient and family regarding the procedure/intervention.
Prepares the patient emotionally and physically for the procedure/intervention.
Monitors and evaluates the patient’s response throughout the procedure/intervention.
Assists other members of the healthcare team during the procedure/intervention.
Provides care, education, and support for patients during pregnancy terminations consistent with applicable laws.
Provides appropriate follow-up care.
Knowledge and skill in the nursing role when caring for patients undergoing the following procedures/interventions:
Ultrasound
Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling
Amniocentesis
Chorionic Villi sampling
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Nursing
5 years clinical experience (2 of which must be labor and delivery)
Understand hospital, community resources and resource/utilization management
Have working knowledge of use of evidence-based guidelines
Demonstrate critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills and time management skills.
Demonstrate ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team.
Have familiarity with computer systems and Microsoft applications.
MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
