    Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Room (ER)


Job Title:

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Room is responsible for providing safe, timely, and compassionate nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of medical and traumatic conditions. The RN performs patient assessments, prioritizes care based on acuity, administers medications and treatments, monitors patient conditions, and collaborates with physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patients based on condition and acuity.
  • Triage patients and prioritize care appropriately.
  • Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and changes in patient condition.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and treatments as ordered.
  • Provide emergency care for medical, surgical, and trauma patients.
  • Initiate and assist with emergency interventions, including CPR and other resuscitative measures.
  • Start and maintain IV access and perform appropriate nursing procedures.
  • Collect specimens and assist with diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
  • Communicate patient status and changes to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain infection-control and patient-safety standards.
  • Assist with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and department quality-improvement activities.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and applicable regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Associate or Bachelor s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification required or preferred, depending on facility requirements.
  • PALS certification may be required for facilities treating pediatric patients.
  • Previous emergency department experience preferred; new graduates may be considered based on facility requirements.

  • Ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced Emergency Department setting.
  • May require 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Regular exposure to critically ill or injured patients and emergency situations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient care for extended periods.
