Unit Med/Surg - 4 West (mixed med surg and tele)
- # Beds 24 beds
- Nurse:Patient Ratios likely 1:5 or 1:4 (based on tele assignment)
- Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLS
- Common diagnoses/Types of patients Primarily medical diagnoses, less surgical - UTI, pleural
effusions, AMS, hepatic encephalopathy, dehydration, sepsis, Client, COPD, cellulitis
- Experience or 'Must have' skills 1 year of recent experience in MedSurg. Needs to be
comfortable with 1:5 ratio that could include total cares patients.
- Are RNs required to titrate drips? Heparin only
- Common titratable &/or set rate drips Only titrate heparin per protocol on this unit
- Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand
are the tele monitors? Unit has tele capability. RNs are not required to read strips. Cardiac Monitoring System is a Philips system.
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse -
does not take patients. Also staff a break nurse if over 8 patients.
- Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes
- RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) No trachs or vents. Can have Cpap if
this is their regular home routine. Patients may also have stable BiPaps (rescue treatment would require higher level of care attention). This unit does not have proper infrastructure to support Hi-Flo oxygen.
- Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 12Hr shifts, 7a/7p
- No self-scheduling. Travelers fill in where needed
- Weekend Requirement Every other weekend. Days - Sat/Sun, Nights - Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun
- Holiday Requirement Would rotate in with perm staff (2 minors & 1 major)
- Is there Call or a Standby requirement? None
- Floating Requirements? To other MSTele unit
- Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? Navy Blue top and bottom SCRUBS only. Black or white shoes. Tattoos need to
be covered.
