The nurse is an integral part of the Radiology Team. The major goal of the Radiology nurse is to provide exceptional quality nursing care to outpatients and inpatients in the radiology department. The TMC RN provides nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols already developed for the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Assesses plans and evaluates the nursing care needs of the patient before, during and after the invasive procedures.
Provides nursing care to the patient undergoing the invasive procedures.
Assists Radiologists during examinations and procedures.
Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
Instructs and educates patients and families.
Provides age appropriate and culturally appropriate care.
Orients and mentors new staff members.
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Follows hospital policies around administration of sedation meds in compliance with competencies and licensure.
Under the general supervision of a physician or a radiologist, the incumbent is responsible for assessing the nursing needs and initiating appropriate intervention for patients in the imaging department according to nursing and medical imaging department philosophy, goals, policies and procedures. Proper nursing standards are to be practiced as well as assist in the education program for staffing needs.
