About Tutor

We believe robots are the biggest lever we have to making the physical world a better, more affordable place. But robots are a rounding error in our society: nearly nine out of ten American factories and warehouses don't even have a single robot, and robots have yet to make their way into our homes or places of business.

Tutor Intelligence is changing that.

Tutor is a robotics research and deployment company, building generally capable robot hardware and artificial intelligence to enable robots to go where no robots have gone before. Sonny is a semi-humanoid robot with frontier dexterity approaching the human form. Cassie does back-breaking work, moving boxes, pallets, and bulk goods for businesses from family-owned manufacturers to some of the largest brands in the world. Tutor robots are manufactured at scale and operate as a network, combining the whole fleet's learned experience to train ever more capable robot artificial intelligence.

Founded at MIT and headquartered in Watertown, MA, our team is full stack: we design and manufacture robot hardware, train our own models, work directly with the smallest and largest end-customers, and maintain our fleet across the United States. We're a team of researchers, engineers, technicians, operators, and sellers who love building things and solving hard problems.

Our mission is grand: robots everywhere, for the common good, raising the standard of living across North America, and then the world.

The Role

Tutor Intelligence is seeking a Robotics Maintenance Technician II to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of autonomous robotic systems deployed at customer sites across North America.

You''ll be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and controls issues, executing repairs, and ensuring our robots operate safely and reliably. This role requires a strong technical foundation, excellent customer communication, and a willingness to travel to support customer operations.

Success in this role comes from delivering exceptional customer service, resolving issues efficiently, documenting work thoroughly, and continuously improving fleet reliability.

Example Projects You Might Work On

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on autonomous robotic systems
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and controls-related issues
  • Install replacement components including motors, sensors, cameras, LiDARs, actuators, wiring harnesses, and industrial computers
  • Support new robot deployments, commissioning, and customer acceptance testing
  • Perform robot calibrations, software updates, and system validation
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and root cause findings using company systems
  • Work alongside Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve complex field issues
  • Provide technical support and training to customer personnel
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to improve fleet reliability and serviceability

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in robotics, automation, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or electromechanical equipment
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using electrical test equipment, hand tools, and power tools
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver''s license and ability to travel up to 75%
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with industrial robots such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Universal Robots, or similar platforms
  • PLC troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with industrial networking and sensors
  • Familiarity with Linux, Windows, or industrial computer systems
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or similar safety certifications
