Job Description

Robotics Operations Systems Engineer

Employment type: Full-time

Primary schedule: Thurs–Sat and every other Wed, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

Step into the Control Room

Night falls, lights glow across a high-bay structure, and you’re at the helm of Symbotic’s system control center. Your dashboards display the real-time heartbeat of automated adapters, vertical lifts, and swarms of autonomous robotic vehicles. An alert pings—an upstream bottleneck is forming. You diagnose the signal path, coordinate with onsite teams, and guide a recovery plan. Minutes later, throughput rebounds. You log the incident, capture root cause details, and flag a longer-term CI action for engineering. That’s a snapshot of your impact: clear communication, decisive troubleshooting, and a relentless push toward operational excellence for our customers.

As part of our Customer Operations organization, you’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with onsite partners to deliver best-in-class quality, safety, and system performance—every shift.

What You’ll Own

  • Real-time monitoring of automated adapters, vertical lifts, and robotic vehicles; spotting trends before they become issues.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of system and operational problems; driving quick containment and long-term corrective actions.
  • Translating technical insights into clear guidance for site teams and customers.
  • Documenting incidents, reporting to engineering, and partnering on solutions that raise performance standards.
  • Training operators on system components (adapters, lifts, robotic vehicles), warehouse management systems, and common IT issues.
  • Backfilling key on-site roles when needed to maintain stable operations.
  • Working closely with customers and internal/external stakeholders; escalating to support teams for production-impacting problems.
  • Leading and participating in continuous improvement and standardization initiatives for our warehouse automation platform.
  • Championing daily safety practices aligned with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer procedures.

  • 2+ years working with automated systems.
  • Familiarity with PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens), industrial robots (ABB), and software tools/languages (SQL, Linux, Python).
  • Hands-on skill assembling, operating, and troubleshooting robotics and electromechanical equipment.
  • Calm under pressure; comfortable shifting priorities as operations evolve.
  • Curiosity to learn new equipment; collaborative spirit to assist teammates.
  • High sense of urgency and ownership.

Work Conditions & Expectations

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations.
  • Ability to use a personal credit card and submit bi-weekly expense reports for reimbursement to Symbotic.

  • Strict adherence to all safety requirements and protocols, including Lockout/Tagout and fall protection.
  • When required by site conditions (e.g., construction environments), use of proper PPE such as hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection (e.g., safety harness).
  • Ability to climb steep stairs to access the structure, including frequent stair travel within the automation system.
  • Comfort working near elevated railings.
  • Work in environments protected from weather but not necessarily temperature; must operate in 105° to 32° Fahrenheit conditions.
